I would say it's definitely on ourselves if we don't bother to use the tools we have. Yes our lives are based on having convenience, but that doesn't mean you can't learn more and more. It's rather inner laziness and procrastination within ourselves that cause our selves to live sentient lives.

I don't necessarily think it's making people less intelligent, but I do think the internet is creating an extreme high level of intellectual laziness which is just as bad (or maybe even worse). It's a great thing because there's virtually limitless information available 24-7; however, that really doesn't bode well for independent thinking or deep self guided research and study as everything is so easily and quickly obtained.

Well people today aren't any less stupid than the people from before the internet age. But it's true that brains/mind are being used less and less. Kids nowadays think like that, why forcing themselves to learn something when they can find it with few clicks.
