Ummm...I'm a bit confused why people are saying Shake It Off was Taylor's first full on pop song when IKYWT was already a big hit

So yeah neither of them were risky at all. I'd go with Adele, I guess since she took so long to release it and she coudl've been Norah Jones'd.

Hello wasn't risky at all. SIO was - her "selling out" to pop could've gone very wrong. Leaving country entirely was a risk for her.

SIO, though neither is particularly risky. I'd say the 1989 album was a definite risk, but by that point Taylor had proved via the Red singles that she could dabble in pure-pop territory without compromising her integrity and commercial power as an artist. In that sense WANEGBT and IKYWT were the risks here, not SIO.

Hello is a by-the-books lead that readily matches the sound and thematic elements of the 21 era. Nothing risky about it.

Hindsight is 20/20, I suppose.

Red is a pop album. It had like 5 pop singles and maybe 2 country ones. SIO was not a risk when she'd already done work with the same producers for the previous album lol. It was as safe as Katy using Luke on TD and PRISM.
