In fact, the video for She Wolf might be the sole focus of this review - Shakira dons a range of skin-tight costumes, from a flesh-toned affair while she writhes in a cage and a half-on lycra thingy that’s surely intended as a fashion-based comment on the duality of (wo)man. Or something. With a supreme effort, we can tear our eyes away from the screen and focus on the music. She Wolf is a blend of good ol’ disco-inspired fun with an omnipresent Daft Punk type electronic voice in the chorus. And Miss Shakira warbling away over the top with her sexy accent is the icing on the cake.
The video is a hipster-approved idolization of the decade's number one idol.
From the lit-up squares on the dance floor to the wolf man dancing on them to Karen O's red spandex, clear plastic and sequin dress, there are clear tributes to Michael Jackson throughout the video.
Although there are no synchronized dancing zombies or choreographed knife fights, the "Thriller" era Michael influences are overwhelmingly obvious.
Karen O's dress looks like a hipster seamstress reimaging Michael's famous, red jacket.
The borderline gothic accents in the video, such as the eerie use of Christmas lights and the band's eventual dismemberment, keep the video firmly grounded in the 21st Century.
Directed by the genius Joseph Kahn, Lady GaGa delivered a sexy video which IMO is the sexiest video from her videography. 'LoveGame' is a genuine New York lifestyle video. It's got that feeling of 'gay, black New York,' of inclusion and glamour," and what about the amazing choreography? BOW!
The video is brilliant. I love the storyline, the special effects, the cinematography and the edition of this video, without a doubt one of the biggest highligths talking about music videos. Fergie looks gorgeous as usual, the elephant and the locations are breathtaking. Their best video to date IMO.
OH-MY-GOD my jaw practically fell to the ground when I saw this video, its different, its pretty dark, and its so emotional. The video was directed by Anthony Mandler. This is seriously dark stuff, a world away from the playful Rihanna who released bubbly pop hits “S.O.S” and “Umbrella.”
The music video is as brooding as the song itself, with Rihanna trapped in a gas chamber, shot underwater, and in an obvious reference to her own troubled relationship, assaulted in a vehicle. But through it all she survives … unlike the man in her life. Take note Chris Brown!
