Makes sense tbh. I was wondering how they were gonna make the last season, which is obviously gonna be about dany her dragons and westeros vs white walkers, last ten episodes.

one way to think of it is essentially 13 episodes for a final season, since there were only supposed to be 7 anyway and it would presumably all be the 'last book material' or whatever they were told by George

just a super sized final season, really, that they're making us wait a long ass time for

what I wanted longer seasons, I still feel we only scratched the surface of this world

The producers did keep saying 7 seasons; splitting it into two halves - even if it's just to keep it on air longer - makes dramatic sense similar to other shows like Battlestar Galactica (different because of the writers strike I know), Breaking Bad, Mad Men etc. especially for a story as unwieldy as this one.

Also, prevents them trying to think of ways to extend plot points and try and interweave them into a 10 episode yearly structure. They can wrap things up more neatly.

Having less episodes to produce in a year, with tighter plots, could do wonders. I'm not mad about this at all.

I'm super sad about this though, I know it's been rumoured for a while now but the idea of this show ending within a couple of years is so, so, so sad.

However it will be bittersweet as shorter seasons + it ending in a couple of seasons time will ensure we get the same quality (if not much more quality) episodes/stories as opposed to if they just unnecessarily dragged the entire thing out like some other shows have done - which would then likely lead to a big decrease in overall quality.

This makes me so sad But I believe it's the perfect move. Many successful shows end up running for way too long, this way we'd get the perfect GoT experience (if we're lucky enough).

Breaking Bad did this with its final season. Despite having to wait a long time between the two halves of the season, I found it worked really well in terms of storytelling and pacing. So I'm for this.
