As if rape victims can HELP feeling that way. What he said is disgusting and I'm appalled, yet not the least bit surprised at ATRLers agreeing with him because a large majority of yall are just absolute trash.

Self-pity is an ugly emotion because it's felt and expressed mostly by those who actually never had to deal with real ****. I've come across many people who went through the absolute worst in their lives, and none of them has ever complained or cried about what happened to them, but rather conceived of those events as experiences to grow from. And truely, those were the wisest, most inspiring, empathetic, modest and beautiful people I have ever met.

I am aware that not every victim has the ability to make the best of their situation, though, and Stephen Fry as well as everyone who agrees with his statement should be ashamed for addressing this sensitive subject in such an unconstructive way. He had all chances to turn this into something empowering, but he choses to be a victim-blaming, self-righteous dick instead. And he's ugly af.

As a victim of sexual abuse from when I was a child, I agree with him.

I would have worded it differently, but I agree with him.

I have been through that self-pity phase, and it is disgusting. The longer you dwell on it, the more it sucks you in deeper.
