this episode was made with the idea of being trans in mind though, while those others shows probably weren't aiming for that. PPG also made it blatantly obvious this was supposed to be about trans issues by showing the trans flag at the end of the episode, which many other shows, especially ones aimed at children, wouldn't dare do

With that said are these new PPG good? The old ones had a very strange type of humor that appealed to older age groups too (like many CN shows, eg Regular Show, Adventure Time, etc). Is it too PG now?

Horse isn't a gender. Neither is unicorn.

Nothing against trans people but animals don't think rationally enough to have gender identities the way humans do. And yes, it does look dumb even if they are cartoon animals.
