The company pulled back one of its newest ads late Tuesday after it came under fire for being racist and insensitive.
The ad in question features Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure asking customers about their perceptions of the big mobile carriers.
“I’m going to tell you a carrier name and I want you to basically tell me what comes to your mind,” the Sprint boss begins. “T-Mobile. When I say T-Mobile to you, just a couple of words?”
A white woman at the table chimes in: “Oh my god the first word that came to my head was (grimacing)…ghetto!”
Dummies. Release an ad with a table full of white people cackling at T-Mobile being called ghetto. T-Mobile has them pressed since they surpassed them to become #3 last year.
Ghetto just means a 'slum' or 'undeveloped' area. It's not always racist. There are white ghettos, you know?! People love putting colors in everything but whatever floats your boat I guess.
But I can see how this can be misinterpreted and I think it's in bad taste. T-Mobile is even better than Sprint so I don't know why they're talking. At least T-Mo hasn't been taken over by a Japanese firm, lol

A white woman sitting at a table and calling a service "ghetto" is racist. T-Mobile has been known to cater to blacks and latinos in urban areas.
i mean...i'm kinda not sure what side to take here. where i live "ghetto" usually just refers to a really poor neighborhood with a lot of crime and doesn't really have to do with black people specifically (like, i've heard people call white boys "ghetto" all the time here), but i don't think that applies everywhere, so i don't know if that applies to where she lives or not.
