Katy Perry joins Universal Music Records, Sony, Warner Music
Katy Perry joins Universal Music Records, Sony and Warner Music Group to renegotiate their contracts with YouTube.
Katy Perry’s involvement with the fight against YouTube may be counter-intuitive considering how much money she has made from streaming services, from her YouTube music videos and the ads attached to them.
The news comes comes after Katy Perry signed a petition to get the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act – which gives broad protection to YouTube and other services that rely on user-uploaded content – overturned.
Quote:
‘The petition [Katy Perry] filed makes clear that she’s worried about the next generation of songwriters and artists that are coming up. She isn’t complaining that she isn’t making enough money,’Sherman told Recode.
