Why is she always held to a different standard than other women in the media? Why is her success always discredited despite how much input she has given into her projects?

She isn't controversial. People despise her because she and her family are very attention seeking and messy, and they posses no shame or aspiration to achieve more education or use their fame for good.

Only celebrity who got famous without having a talent or actually achieving anything I can think of at the moment ist Paris Hilton and she was also always seen as a joke. I was comparing her to all celebrities in general, not just celebrities who made their way up there the same way Kim did.
