She really was an amazing mentor (She wasn't a judge, she was a mentor @OP ). I remember that specific advice really stuck out to me among what other mentors have told contestants over the years. There's been great ones, but that was such a specific piece of advice the most people wouldn't have thought of that really made the performance so much better. Her theatre background really gave her some extra cred there.
Looking back at this, I have no idea how Haley didn't win. Lauren and Scotty are cute but she was amazing.
The producers/judges were throwing her under the bus hardcore. The judges were SO harsh on her so much of the time (which was especially odd since the judges that season were so easy on everyone). That's also a big reason why I think Pia was eliminated so early....the judges' comments do sway a lot of people who vote, and when they were praising everyone the way they were that season, it made it seem like everyone was just as good as each other. http://www.mtv.com/news/1663728/hale...randy-jackson/

I'm pretty sure it was that episode where after all of the contestants did their first song, Ryan asked the judges who won the first round, and Randy said "I think it was a tie between Scotty, Lauren and James." Literally every contestant except for Haley.
