I've been seeing an increasing number of comments from his supporters equating Hillary with being a Republican, so the least he could do is help to undo a bit of that damage.

Hillary stayed in till the end. And her attacks on Obama were brutal.
Does no one remember the "Who would you rather have pick up the 3AM call?"- ads that she ran. Bernie might be saying she was unqualified but she was saying the same about Barack Obama. Albeit without saying the word "unqualified". Hillary didn't drop out either, even though everyone knew she was going to lose. That's why she (and her supporters) can't demand Bernie drop out or play nice. She fought dirty till the end.
Anyways: The primary damage will be forgotten IF he can do what Bill and Hillary Clinton did in 2008; give good speeches in support of Obama in 2008. The 2008 primaries was just more brutal than this one and the DEMS managed to get it together in time for November.
