Here are my thoughts: This was inevitable but they suffered the sophomore slump, like many other bands whose success started with a hit song (other examples include Foster The People and Of Monsters and Men, the latter specially failed). They have pretty much abandoned the Americana genre and switched to something more acoustic.....which really takes away what this band was about. The melodies and folk rhythms are nowhere to be found. Ophelia is the only song that comes close to their former glory.

It's a good album for rainy days though! It reminds me a little of the latest The Tallest Man On Earth album which I actually really liked. With music I guess you want what you think you're being sold. With The Lumineers I wanted folk, with the TMOE I wanted acoustics.

The change is not nearly as 180 degrees as the change Mumford & Sons made with Wilder Mind so I expect this to do okay. Top 10 debut on Billboard maybe, after all the lead did debut in the Hot 100.

It's a pretty solid album and I like it.

And I don't get the comparison with OMAM, their second album was different but great.

I have to disagree right there, OMAM's sophomore effort was very disappointing. The critics didn't like it a lot. Curious to see whether they'll like this one tho.

It didn't have that much of a folk sound, but the sound and the lyrics of the record were great.

This sounds not that much different from the debut, but I need another few listens to judge.

Alas, this is what I feared. I have to agree though, the first album is just so fun. It's exciting. This one, while a nice listen, doesn't really have 'it.'

Fair enough. Have to disagree with Slate though, they tried to tweak their sound a little.

I have to agree here, OMAM's second album is wonderful. It is far better than their first, which had too much filler for my liking. It is more even and the emotional material on BTS was much more striking for me ("Hunger," "Black Water," "Organs," "I of the Storm"). In general, the critics didn't really loathe it or anything, it only did slightly less with acclaim than the first (though that admittedly doesn't matter much to me, and I work as a critic lol). FTP definitely suffered though.

My only issue with this album is that it lacks a standout track that pulls it altogether (the first had a couple, especially "Stubborn Love"). It is a bit like pleasant background music after a while.
