I know Beauty & the Beast is already done for, but I just came across this...
Shirley MacLaine, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand.
They don't make awards shows with that kinda PUNCH anymore.
And then the late Howard Ashman's partner is there accepting the award and talking about AIDS and I actually kinda can't believe that that happened? In the nineties?
That would've been a standing ovation moment nowadays.
Also just realized that Madonna, Celine Dion, and Barbra Streisand have all popularized two Oscar-winning songs, but of the six songs only one yielded a trophy for the performer (Evergreen). That's such a bull**** rule.

Why are you so surprised? This was already a decade into the AIDS crisis. The fight for awareness and treatment was still at its height. That's why everyone is wearing those red ribbons.
But what totally jumped out at me was the Babs bit. Her Best Director snub was THE controversy of the 1991 Oscars.

man Liza looked so young there It took her a looooong time to finally age and then..
Now I'm watching all of these old 90s Oscar performances on YouTube.
Belle / Be Our Guest was great. The Oscars don't really stage big productions like that anymore, do they? Poor Idina.
A Whole New World probably would've gotten the SJWs going with cries of cultural appropriation.
Bruce Springsteen did not bring out a parade of gay men with AIDS. Gaga should have taken notes from her alleged idol.
Wow, that Beauty and the Beast medley is fantastic! (RIP Jerry Orbach) And the actor playing Aladdin is pretty cute.
A hauntingly beautiful performance from Bruce. It makes me sort of sad we didn't take his song a bit further in this tournament.
I think the big production numbers were one of the things that used to get made fun of, so Oscar producers eventually moved away from them in an effort to make the show younger and hipper. But we still see them on occasion (think "Jai Ho" or "Happy"), albeit not quite on the same scale.
I'll never forget "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp."

And then they had Ms. Streisand present Best Director to a woman for the first time when Bigelow won. They can be a little shady.
