I don't know. I've given this SO much thought but I just don't know.
On one hand it could make the women/men safer and ensure they're paid fairly.
But on the other hand, if it's legalized we're accepting that men can purchase women/men which imo is dangerous for society. Especially for the progression of women's rights because this could negatively affect men's attitudes towards women.
Plus how would we decide who can be a prostitute and who can't? We'd have to have some sort of system because otherwise we're enabling the most vulnerable people in society to be exploited.
It can also end up being very dodgy (like the legal brothels are used as fronts for illegal brothels which have bad practices).
There's been loads of drama surrounding the legalization too. I think some guy who was an advisor to the UN on the subject ended up in prison for trafficking women.
The whole thing is just really tricky and definitely not as black and white as y'all seem to think.
I'm definitely for legalizing selling sex though. It's the purchaser who should be punished imo.
