I guess no one has quite done it like J.Lo has in regards to marketing herself as a commodity, though certainly many other female stars have had empires prior. Just look at Lucille Ball. Her production company launched Star Trek and Mission: Impossible. She didn't have her fingers in as many places, but that's still a major female led empire.
I didn't know that about Barbra being Jennifer's idol though. Interesting connection

Not sure if this was a subliminal shade or not. But regardless of what business venture she takes on she considers herself an entertainer (singer, actress, dancer), first and foremost.
But yeah, Barbra was a global artist, but she's never had or created a global empire/brand. I honestly can't think of one single female artist who's ever had a successful global empire bigger than Jen's really. I think what sets Jen apart from the rest was that she was able to be extremely successful in almost all aspects of the entertainment business in such a short amount of time and with tremendous ease, yet, she was still able to stick to her roots and stay grounded. I believe for her, all these business ventures are/were just side jobs. They were able to market it as another piece of herself that she can give to her fans, and it blossomed.
I remember even reading Beyonce say she admired her work ethic, and even wanted a career like hers. And many have had.
