I think I might have this
When I was a child, I was diagnosed with asthma. I was given a medicine. However, my Dad heard that the medicine was associated with brittle bones and other issues in older age. He took me off the stuff entirely against my Doctors advice and I haven't really had any problems throughout my life in regards to asthma. I do sometimes have a little bit of breathlessness but it's not really serious.
However, I do struggle to walk long distances because it really hurts my leg bones (I'm talking for like a hour of walking non-stop). So it looks like he made the right decision. It could be much worse if he didn't take me off it when he did.
