The Winter Olympics were actually a disaster for Russia. The event didn't help the city as planned and many of the venues are unused. The Russian economy soon got worse.

This also happened in Greece. The venues weren't complete, they spent millions, and the country had an economic collapse.

Wow.

I guess it's just that the (US) media doesn't write much about them after the fact.

Anyone can visit Brazil visa free from June to September of this year though. They relaxed the Visa restrictions so more people can go for the Olympics.

Well maybe they shouldn't make everyone apply for a Visa in order to visit their country

The article only specifies Canada, USA, Japan and Australia but I'm pretty sure it was opened to citizens of all nationalities.

Can enter for up to 90 days visa free June to September.

Edit: Turns it out is only for those 4 countries. I guess they changed, cause last I checked it was open to other countries too.

Yeah.. tbh they should've done this a lot sooner and it would've helped. This just happened in January mess.

I think they debated/discussed it for a while before it was passed by the Brazilian government. I heard about it back in November originally.

It also doesn't help that airline tickets to Rio are expensive for August and that hotel room rates are so overpriced, which could be keeping people away too.

Someone came into our school's travel agency and the price we found for him was like $5,000 to $8,500 for just ONE week during the Olympics.

i was wondering why i haven't seen or heard much about the olympics this year, there's hardly any promo in the US for it. but for China and Greece the media coverage was continuous.

But Russia suffered a backlash boycott campaign because of the LGBT propaganda law, in Brazil there isn't a boycott campaign so hopefully Brazil pulls through.
