Well, it's incredibly rare for an out lgbt performer to win Oscars, article. It's happened 1-2 times or something.
Topping the charts is also pretty rare.

Adam got second which is good enough. The whole WGWG that went on for like 6 seaons wouldn't have allowed that anyways

And no Asians won American Idol but you don't see them complaining

this is true for all singing competitions that rely on voting... it's a popularity contest and unfortunately lgbt people aren't winning those. Especially with the middle America demographic that's given us all of the WGWG winners on Idol and country/Christian finalists on The Voice

The first winner of Dutch idol was gay

Will Young was out when he won British Idol 15 years ago, and he is still successful at least in UK.

It's happened quite a bit more than once or twice. Sam Smith, Elton John, Melissa Etheridge, Howard Ashman (twice) have all won Best Original Song, plus Dustin Lance Black and probably a few others won for Screenplay. Jodie Foster won two awards for Best Actress, though she wasn't officially out at the time (though apparently there were rumors). If we include bisexual people, Angelina Jolie and Marlon Brando can be lumped in as well.


Topping the charts is probably rarer for gay people than winning Oscars tbh. Sam Smith was blocked on both the BB200 and H100, and I don't think any out gay or lesbian act has topped the Hot 100 since that Clay Aiken single (was he even out then?). #1 albums are probably a bit more common than #1 singles, but Adam Lambert is the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

The voting demographic for those shows just aren't the people that would vote for an open gay. I'm not saying it's right, because it isn't but to be fair the best season's vocalist except arguably Kelly have never won the show either. This sucks but these shows are popularity contests for that watching demographic and it kind of is what it is.


This is why we had repeated, indistinguishable white guy with guitar winners in a row even when they were never objectively the most talented in their seasons.

I could care less about an LGBT contestant not winning. Try being a female on the show and win a season with a WGWG in it. All the girls in those seasons were screwed over because of them.

And aside from Kelly, the only other female winners were a blonde country girl and black R&B artists.

And the voters are also ageist. Last season, the ONLY person that was BORN in the 1980s was Nick Fradiani...and on top of that...he was born in 1985, which meant he would turn 30 after the season was over. Everyone else was born in the 1990s. And yet American Idol chose the old 80's baby.

And not to mention, try living in any other region of the country from the South? You're already at a disadvantage because those Southern contestants always either win or get far.

Idol had way too many issues that led to ****** winners and finalists and while I'm a little sad to see it leave, good riddance at the same time.

Adam Lambert was robbed. Other than that no LGBT contestant was worthy of the title.

What about Kelly Clarkson? She has said that she would go lesbian for Shakira.

He lost to an irrelevant guy who participated just to get some coins, which is truly embarrassing. American Idol is literally the worst "talent" show ever. I'm really glad it's never coming back.
