Its sound was more appealing in South America and Europe. Plus, the song was already huge there when it was on YouTube mid 2009. Yeah, Te Amo was an old song that someone leaked it before she even started recording RR.
Te Amo was a great song but the US was a very, very homophobic country back then, until Mother Monster released Born This Way (both the song and the album) in 2011.
