#5: Tiziano Ferro - Scivoli Di Nuovo
This amazing song from Tiziano Ferro's masterpiece
Alla Mia Età was released as a single late this year, which gave this song additional life on my weekly chart. As usual, Tiziano's ballads are his best songs and this is no exception. The haunting piano melody at the beginning sets the tone and then he blows me away again and again with his fantastic vocals and production (he produces his own music).
#4: Kris Allen - Live Like We're Dying
This is the best debut single ever from an artist spawned by an Idol show. Although it's an exact copy of The Script's unknown version of the song, Kris's vocals make it a thousand times better. It's truly the catchiest song of the year, the chorus is pure pop genius. Definitely an excellent way to launch Kris's career.
#3: Jordin Sparks - Battlefield
People criticize Ryan Tedder all the time but it's no secret that the man is at times truly a genius. First he created one of the best pop songs ever, "Surrender" by Blake Lewis. And now there's "Battlefield", a song that gives the word epic a new meaning. Jordin owns the song with her immaculate vocals and shows that she is the best American singer of the decade.
#2: Tiziano Ferro - Il Regalo Più Grande
This incredible ballad was #2 last year as well, so it had a lot of longevity. I can't really explain why I love Tiziano's music so much, his voice is just amazing and I can listen to his songs on repeat all the time, even though I don't understand a word of Italian.
#1: Adam Lambert - Mad World
Although my favorite performance of his on American Idol was "Ring Of Fire", it was the studio version of "Mad World" that convinced me of Adam's unreal talent and potential. The live version on the show was great, but the studio version is so haunting and beautiful. For me he doesn't have to scream, his voice shines best when he does subdued stuff. Maybe that's why his album disappointed me.
I was already familiar with three other versions of "Mad World", two of which (Gary Jules and Alex Parks) already had substantial plays on my Winamp. So it was surprising that I got so addicted to the song yet again only because Adam was singing it. It truly became the song that defined 2009 for me and I hope he does more stuff like it in the future.
Anyway, that's it, see you next year
