Thanks heaps y'all. I'm currently fixing my sim card into the phone and about to sync everything. I don't remember updating to the cloud or w/e so am very anxious.

If you backed up thru iCloud or your computer, everything can be restored as you left it.
Although since you didn't know you could assign an email to use for iMessage, I'll have to assume you didn't back up to iCloud or your computer.
