There's no way that apartment with 4 BR is only 4K At least 2 of them must be paying a good percentage of that because a 4 Bedroom in out here in SF is like 10K

Basically, all the big tech companies are just outside SF. Since SF is such a hotbed for night-life and culture/fun, all the hip, young, employees that work at those companies would rather live inside SF, instead of living in the city that their company is actually based in, like Mountain View for example.

The influx of rich people who can afford anything pretty much inflates the cost of everything in the area, including housing. That, plus gentrification of poorer areas as well. SF is pretty much the rich, white man's paradise tbh.

If it's like Vancouver, it has a lot to do with rich Chinese buying houses and then renting them... They keep buying and keep causing the prices to increase

When I studied abroad in a medium sized French city apartments were only 434 euros a month which isn't too expensive

Forget about it in places like San Fran, NYC, Paris, London, etc.
