Why make everything so commercialized?

I've never heard an ad on SoundCloud to begin with...

Not to mention this does not have the vast library of music of Spotify/Apple.

Because they would have gotten their asses shut down otherwise - artists (mostly those signed to labels) were uploading stuff and not getting paid a dime because there was no way for plays to generate cash. That's why a lot of labels had their artists remove their music from soundcloud. It's a good platform and it needs to survive.
