I know most members don't know who the hell I am because I barely post outside of the few threads I visit often.

Not all mods are. I'm not invisible, for example.
However, I completely understand mods who are. It can be a pain to give a completely deserved warning with the knowledge the member will have seen it was me. It happens regularly they will either PM me about it or call me "biased" or generally be disrespectful to me afterwards. Mods don't want to deal with that.
I just prefer being visible because I feel like it comes across as more genuine, showing I have nothing to hide. But really, the smart thing for a mod is to set yourself invisible. Avoids a lot of unnecessary ******** to deal with.
