This is most probably the most unexpected entry for top albums this year - I, myself, was surprised when I liked this album. The dope beats and electronics of every song are actually really good. Nothing is really new about their style of distorting the music, but it was really fun listening to this record - it's pure hardcore. This is the type of album I would like to play in the car. The opening instrumental track
Tapp really made me feel that this album will make me party hard. The best track from this album is
Don't Trust Me- the first song I heard from them. I just hope Philippine radio stations will play more 3Oh!3. 3Oh!3 are just insane! I love the little gangster inside of them.

This Is Us
Backstreet Boys
Label: Jive
Genre: R&B, dance-pop, synth pop
Standout Tracks:
1. Masquerade
2. Straught Through My Heart
3. This Is Us
4. Shattered
5. She's A Dream
|
I cannot say that the Backstreet Boys are really back but this album is much better than their last two. This ain't a step back, but is a step forward. The combination of pop and R&B is just extreme. This album showcases BSB's want on trying something fresh for them. The first single
Straight Through My Heart has a killer chorus mixed with awesome vocals from the four guys. The album also includes a really nice RNB track ,
This Is Us, which sounded not like them. However, the real killer track is
Masquerade. From the brilliant lyrics to the dark sound; it's epic. Definitely, the old teen-pop music is gone away.

Waking Up
OneRepublic
Label: Interscope Records
Genre: Alternative rock, pop rock
Standout Tracks:
1. Good Life
2. All The Right Moves
3. Everybody Loves Me
4. Made For You
5. Marching On
|
I wasn't expecting this kind of record from them, but this one still sounds great to my ear. I really love the creepy and dark packaging for the whole album. The album is a bid different from their first effort but it still has that unexplainable magic that OneRepublic can only create. I fell in love with all the hooks of this album. The band's tight playing blended really well to Ryan's floating vocals. The albums kicks of with
Made For You, and that track just killed me from the very first beat and then killed me all over again until the last hymn. Tracks such as
All The Right Moves,
Everybody Loves Me, and
Good Life made me ecstatic because of the beats fueled with amazing lyrics.
Marching On is stellar and
Missing Persons 1 & 2 is not just any mediocre ballad - these tracks will blow you away. The album is captivating. It's an extraordinary musical experience.
