The borders of Hawaii weren't drawn they're natural borders. The other 49 states have drawn borders that have a straight line.

The western states are mostly square because of all the land out there and such a low human population at the time of the states formation.

I lived in Colorado for 7 years which is a literal rectangle and Utah now which is a rectangle with a square cut out of it. The boundaries are fine and there's like nothing else out here in the west that could possibly act as a boundary. It's like 90% desert and plains anyways

It's similar to what happened with Europe's partition of Africa. There are countries divided by straight lines which follow no natural borders. It is all determined by politics and economics.

African countries like Egypt, Libya, Sudan are also square/straight lines looking

They're divided along parallels where there isn't a natural border like a river. Look at the counties in the panhandle of Texas

The eastern portion of the USA has plenty of natural borders... Why is Delaware a tiny strip of a tiny peninsula with Maryland????? Why is Connecticut even a thing with that square shape?
