Tbh, one could just try listening to one of those Irish Folk playists Spotify uploads for St Patrick's Day and call it Cultural Enlightenment instead of Appropriation.
Nobody has to be offended when people actually care about the celebration and culture itself. The problem only comes when people perpetuate their stereotypes and conceptualized ideas of what the Irish are by using the holiday as an excuse to get drunk because that is what they believe all the Irish do.
It triggers me so much. For Irish culture to be reduced to debauchery and alcoholism is utterly offensive. I'm tempted to write a think piece about it on my blog.
Over-extending Irish culture to more than debauchery and alcoholism infuriates me. I'm penning a retort on my blog as we speak.
A lot of different races celebrate it. At least some aspects. (Parades, wearing something green, etc.)
