VR isn't going to be mainstream at all. At best, it'll be a niche market but ultimately won't replace or supplement console/PC gaming. I could see it seeing a resurgence a couple of decades later if technology evolves at a more natural and affordable pace to fully utilize VR to its fullest potential.
Just look at the Wii and Wii U. Gimmicks are fads at best and don't carry a lot of weight with gamers in general.
