Most Sennheisers around $300 will be good.
Audio Technicas are good but only if your budget is $100.
They are the best budget headphones, but can't compete with higher end ones.

The best headphones for around $300 are V-Moda M100. Nothing comes close.
I've been "promoting" these headphones for about 2 years here now. So happy with them.
Outstanding sound quality. Insanely good for contemporary music due to bass balance.
Build (and advertised) as a tank, because they are mega durable more so than any other headphone.
They are also very comfortable and you can listen to them for hours without any discomfort.
Bonus: they look great and have customizable ear cups.

I have BEATS PRO's, and the sound is actually great. I tested a bunch of Audio Techna, Sony, Schneisser, and Samsung headphones out before I made my decision to get the Pro's. The only other headphone that I've tried that's better are the Beat MIXR's, the sound literally blows and is great, but it was too loud and deafening at the highest volume setting, and i only listen to music at the highest volume setting, + they're very uncomfortable.

All the BEAT's haters out there: I know the majority of the beats line is horrendous, but the pro's are great. Has anyone tested the pro's here, and if so, have you found a pair of headphones that are better (excluding the price, I just want to hear about the comfortability level and sound quality)

Sis you're going to go deaf and not be able to hear new music. I have my iPod volume locked to 75%, plus you can hear the little details in the songs so much better at the volume, they get drowned out at loud volumes.

I know Just a few hours with the Mixr's left me about 60-65% deaf for the following 3-4 days, until I regained normal hearing. I know I suffered some permanent damage, but I think it was worth it. I've never heard sounds like that, EVER. The Beats Pro's at the highest are tolerable though, but still kick. I don't know, I know I should stop but I can't. Music isn't worth listening to if you don't feel like you're getting ****ed deep in your ear canals tbh.
