So, an American college student decided to go tour North Korea and stole a propaganda banner there. He was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in prison.
Yes, it's #1 on my travel list, although I'll probably wait to go when the country isn't testing ballistic missiles and detaining students. Maybe in 5 years?
However one of my favourite TV shows/documentary series went there for two episodes and it was really interesting to watch and see what they can and can't portray.
When we learned about North Korea in high school I found it so interesting and wanted to visit but thinking about it, its a bit too risky for me. I would never be as dumb as this guy and disrespect their country but who is to stop them from accusing me and keeping me there for a crime I didn't commit. I see why people would visit but I will admire from afar.
No. It seems like a frighteningly extremely boring place. I don't see the point in going there unless you're a photographer or journalist who's creating a documentary or something.
I mean honestly Mexico is like 10x times more dangerous than NK and people are breaking their necks to vacation there. If you stay out of trouble and don't do anything stupid I'm sure NK Is fine.
Places like Heaven Lake look incredible, but there are far too many remarkable destinations around the world than to needlessly endanger myself traveling to countries where my nationality would potentially make me a target. It's a firm no for me.
