In my opinion, septum piercings are one of the worst trends to happen this decade behind man buns.
Before they were trendy (2013+), I hated them. They reminded me of a bull. No one really had one, though, so I didn't really care.
Then 2013 deep hipster culture caught on with the trend. I went to San Francisco that December and literally everyone I hung out with had one. Everyone. I got used to them as a hipster thing. I still thought they were unflattering, but they were normalized to me.
Now in 2015-2016, it seems the Tumblr-scene has caught on. You know, the basic "hipsters," who do things the original hipsters do, just 2 years later, after it finally reaches their Tumblr or is given approval by their prophet, Halsey. Now, they annoy me to no end. I can't take them seriously anymore. I feel like people getting them today want to be edgy so bad, but end up looking Halsey-Tumblr-omg-you-listen-to-FKA-twigs?-ish. They are a reminder of the new type of basics, the New Americana.
