Having a democrat president with a republican congress/senate these days is destined for failure. I don't think I'll ever understand why the US has a separate presidential election from congress and the senate.

I think most of the Republicans have backed themselves into a corner on this one. Mitch McConnell's already since stated he's going to "let the American people have a voice" (). One Republican Senator's broken from the pact but I imagine he's one of a very select few.
