So people can't steal your password. This would require anyone wanting access to your account to have your face. This will basically require you or an identical twin to be present (even then, it may pick up on subtle differences between identical twins). A face transplant would theoretically work, but at that point the person trying to break into your account would have you, so they could just threaten you to open up your account.
Basically it makes it so that it's easier to find a backdoor, which is something that's actually fixable on the server side without major changes.
