Everybody’s favourite warrior princess will back onscreen in an upcoming reboot.
LGBT icon Xena: The Warrior Princess will soon be battling her way back onto television screens – fifteen years after the last episode of the show aired.
However, fans of the cult icon and her long time lover Gabrielle will be delighted to discover that their romance will feature at the forefront of the new series.
Grillo-Marxuach told fans that he plans to be a little more forthcoming about the undeniable chemistry between Xena and Gabrielle with this updated version.
“Xena will be a very different show made for very different reasons,” he said during a Q&A on Tumblr.

“There is no reason to bring back Xena if it is not there for the purpose of fully exploring a relationship that could only be shown subtextually [sic] in first-run syndication in the 1990s,” he added.
I'm not watching it if there's no Lucy Lawless, quite frankly. I don't care if the relationship is openly gay or not. I actually liked that it was subtext, because it left it open to interpretation and it didn't have to be entirely romantic if you just wanted a strong relationship between two women.
I love the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle, but I cannot get into this reboot if Lucy and Renee are not somehow involved.
I don't even remember if there was any romance between Zena and Gabrielle. Was Xena bi or something?
Anyways, statements like these make me cringe. Why is it important to announce that the new Xena will be openly gay? If I remember correctly, Xena was mostly involved with men.
Are they making her a full on lesbian now to fit in with today's standards and what's hot at the moment? That's ridiculous.
