I'm atheist so I don't know how one can be religious if their religion is against homosexuals, which is why I made this thread for discussion.
I know people who are christians/muslims/etc and their religion clearly stands against gays but they still practice it while identifying themselves as gay, how?
They'll say things like 'God loves all' but.. that's not what your holy book says.

I think it's down to their parents forcing them .. quite sad really.. but some religious members will try to disagree of course

I'm from Indonesia and an atheist. Some of my gay friends still believe in God. It's their business but personally I see them as being so naive.

I mean just because some parts are homophobic doesn't mean the rest has no value.

The holy bible was written by men (or maybe children since it's so bad written) not by GOD so why would they care about it?

If you're not valuing the homophobic stuff why do you even value the other stuff? or the religion as a whole?

I feel sorry for them. My atheism doesn't discriminate against anyone.

It's a classic example of doublethink to me. It doesn't make much sense, being gay and religious imo.

i haven't read it in our Holy Book that homosexuals should be discriminated, there are just other people making their own interpretation and stating them as something God wants. (i am a muslim)

I am a gay Christian. It's a matter of interpretation of the Bible and certain controversial passages. I don't interpret them as anti-gay.

If the Ted Cruzes of the world want to "kill the gays", that's their interpretation - which I don't believe.

I'm Jewish and I'm pretty sure there's something against it. I choose to ignore the outdated parts. I'm not a super religious person.

Not everybody takes their religion word by word perfect.

You can disagree with some things the religion promotes and agree with the majority of it.

We all sin in many ways, yet many people still follow the religion.

Isn't lusting after people a sin? Isn't being gay a sin? Yet so many straights are whacking off to lesbian ****.

People usually follow most of the religion, but not everything. I think it's unhealthy to follow absolutely everything a religion promotes or says you should do/follow, it can lead to extremism and warp your sense of viewing things.

I also hate it when you criticize their hateful religion some ATRL members here (on a really Gay site) defended it, report you and you even get some warning point for it.
