Do you prefer weaker vocalists?
So this is gonna sound a tad absurd but I noticed that most of the artists i stan have been known at one point or another for being "weak" vocalists. Some examples:
Selena, Taylor, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Pop-Nicki, Lana , amongst others:
Their music, in my opinion, goes hard. They all have some incredibly strong tracks, great visuals, an unique image, and their own distinctive sound...
Like why is it that some (if not most) of the amazing artists (pop stars) out there are just not that vocally gifted?

Powerful vocals =/= success. See: Christina Aguilera. 💃

Not every singer is a vocalist though?

You need to differentiate vocalist from entertainer. A vocalist is expected to have strong vocals, an entertainer doesn't need strong vocals but the complete package. You prefer entertainers more.

RIhanna does not belong on that list.
She has pitch problems, but she can belt and wail.
Those other girls can barely whisper.
Love Selena though.

Tone is more important to me than ability. You can be the best vocalist in the world, but if you have a grating, unpleasant tone, I'll pass.

she's not known for her live performances though, and is often dragged for them. Not saying i agree, just the usual consensus (cause I love ha)

I don't prefer them. I love incredible vocalists, my main faves include Beyoncé, Ariana, Frank Ocean and Brendon Urie as well as strong but polarising voices like Alanis Morissette.
I like songs by many weak vocalists but my favourite songs have insane or just big pleasing vocals, that's my favourite kind of musician.

MTE. Y'all claim Tori Kelly and Jessie J are underrated and deserve more success because they're good vocalists but I loathe their tones so I get it.....
Demi Lovato is technically a better singer than Selena Gomez but Demi's tone is grating and Selena's doctored up voice sounds nice

No, I prefer stronger vocalists. Rihanna, Madonna, Britney etc are some exception because I enjoy pretty much everything about them but I usually can't stand listening to paper thin ass, struggling vocals. Strong vocalists can also be really unpleasant to listen to ofc

Yeah see l'll barely listen to the previously listed (when it comes to bops/pop music)
Like I'll listen to the artists mentioned in the OP way more often than:
Adele, Beyonce, Xtina, Ariana, Demi, Jessie j (pop stars usually praised for their vocals)]

It's nice to see someone talk about this without having to shade for once, I notice the vocalist stanning divide usually ends up in unnecessary shade about talent/boring voices so it's refreshing just to see it be discussed normally.
But yeah I think tone is also important, I don't like Jessie J or Demi's voices no matter how phenomenal they are technically.

No. Two of my faves are Kelly and Gaga.
My other fave is Taylor and I'm not a fan of hers because of her voice, I'm a fan of hers because of her songwriting and artistry.

Emotion >>> vocals.
I hate singers that are too busy hitting all the notes and can't deliver a story or make u feel a certain way. I personally love it when singers mess up a certain part when you can tell they are pouring their hearts out.
But yeah I agree that Rihanna shouldn't be on a list with Selena, Taylor and Katy... She's obviously no Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey at all but she is definitely better than the gals u mentioned.
