Beyonce is an artist and visionary who's worth and legacy is not contingent on the amount of radio fodder #1 hits she has. Anyone can trend hop, like Hilary Clinton, to whatever sound is hot on the charts (WFL, Diamonds, Stay, Work) and tally another "hit", 80% of which won't be remembered. If that's the only end to the means, what's the point?
14 #1s and what does Rihanna have to show for it? Is she performing at the Superbowl? Is she doing hot selling #stadiumonly tours (without downgrades)? Is she invoking discourse on socio-cultural issues? Is she pushing the musical envelope? Are her visuals improving?
But the Navy has always been more into style than substance, so I don't expect them to understand.
Thank god for artists like Taylor, Katy, Beyonce, and Adele that set trends and are always progressing to make things bigger and better.
