They all know Sharapova could and would beat them handily, as she has done countless times in the past.

I didn't know Nadal played against her .. damn ... he must have gone down so much, he know competes in the women section.

So you are denying the fact that Halep, Wozniacki, Serena, Nadal, Murray, et. al. are scared of Sharapova?
I find it quite disingenuous that all these players on the WTA and ATP who have been defeated by Sharapova say that she deserves punishment when they themselves know not quite so deep down that she would prevent them from winning Grand Slam titles.

No you don't when your name is Anna Kournikova. She's in a different league in the looks department though. All she had to do is stay in Top 10.
The likes of Sharapova and Bouchard must win titles, they're not Kournikova.

Outside of the hype you see about the drug online, there's not much scientific support for its use as an athletic enhancer. A major academic paper published last year recommended that WADA add meldonium to the banned list and described various methods for detecting it in urine samples.

Very nice article by the way!

What is this?! Nadal maybe is scared by Maria, she's taller than him after all but Serena doesn't give a **** about Sharapova. Serena is winning with her eyes closed against Sharapova.
And yeah, stop trolling.

So glad to see the tide is shifting in terms of the media's take on this, which will undoubtedly sway public opinion.
CNN, FOX, and more have all realized how flimsy WADA's "evidence" is against the growing mountain of scientific proof showing that meldonium is not a performance enhancer. WADA will be very embarrassed when all the facts and findings are revealed in court.
Sharapova will be vindicated. I hope she sues WADA, too.

The credentials of the author of the CNN article just posted above:
Ford Vox is a physician specializing in rehabilitation medicine and a journalist. He is a medical analyst for NPR station WABE-FM 90.1 in Atlanta.
Compare him to all the armchair physicians posting here and writing think pieces elsewhere.

I can't with WTA these days, random girls like McHale peaking for one day, beating the seed just to most probably flop in the next round. I know it's better for a sport when it's competitive, but I'd take a stable top 10 over this mess any day.
Like the problem is not only the fact that the top ladies can't keep their level for more than a couple of tournaments, but the instability is even bigger in those lower positions of the ranking where there's potential, but it shows up like 3 times a year.

Both arguments for and against the strength/weakness of the WTA are invalid. Those who say that the WTA's strength relies on the depth of the top 50, and hence, the frequency of upsets, are plain wrong. In what world is McHale (as said by the above post, and no shade) a strong player? She should be ranked outside of the top 100.
On the other hand, we don't need another year like 2015 where we have only one player dominating the whole scene. This is also a problem for ATP and the argument that the men's tour is stronger because they have a "Big 4." First of all, last year the Big 4 was mostly just Novak Djokovic, making the whole season incredibly boring. Second of all, the Big 4 has not been a compelling collection of rivalries since 5 years ago. We have Djokovic always beating Nadal, Federer, Murray; Federer always beating Murray and never facing Nadal; etc;
This is how the golden age got its name. When top players faced each other, there was rarely a clear favorite or tremendous underdog. The top 10 were the mainstays, but at the same time there was never a tournament favorite from the outset. Like, how is Carla Suarez Navarro in the top 10? Or even Kvitova? It's a disgrace.

If you read the quoted CNN article, the author reveals that the studies cited are very questionable. The first of the only two studies that mention its performance enhancing effects was published in an disreputable Georgian (country) journal with faulty scientific base. The second one is based on the first one, invalidating the findings.

Mladenovic really needs to stop talking. Girl thinks that she can start spewing lies full of hatred and jealousy ever since she made it the QF of the USO, where she flopped to Vinci of all players. Sharapova is infinitely more talented and successful than her.
She criticized Sharapova for not being friendly to players and not being popular. Well, apparently not everyone cares to run their mouths all the time, to players or the press, unlike Mladenovic. And maybe Mladenovic should focus less on how many tennis player "friends" she has. Maybe then she'll make a career of her lesser talent in the singles circuit.

Two things:
1) Didn't one of the women you named beat Maria eighteen times? Why would she in particular be worried about her competing?
2) Why do you mention Rafael Nadal? Men and women don't compete against each other.

No, I'm not, I never was. If anything I was impressed by her way of playing and beating Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final. Yeah, I'm mature like that.
But not as impressed as by her inability to win against Serena for the past 12 years.

I forgot about her, but yes, she is so beautiful that she didn't need to win titles.

I've seen it yesterday, it's really good.
btw, mess at Kerber losing to anyone now.
With Sharapova suspended, Venus struggling and JJ flopping I guess it's time for me to try finding someone new to cheer for.

Maria might not even be punished at all. The narratives are all starting pointing to WADA just "playing" games on Maria and over exaggerating this whole scandal. Queen of innocence!

But given the current state of affairs, with athletes all over the spectrum testing positive for a drug that was legal one day and not the next, WADA deserves some, if not most, of the fault. The agency tasked with making sports fair failed in its mission. The point of WADA isn’t to entrap athletes for taking performance enhancers, it’s to ensure that all athletes are on a level playing field. On Jan. 1, WADA began tilting that field and it’s only now starting to get back into balance.
