Anyways, I don't think you're getting my point. There could be a CULTURAL difference in usage of the word. Like, according to SpanishDict (not the best source but hey, y'all cite HuffPo), the secondary definition of protagonist is "leading figure", which isn't unfair to use for either of them.
You're reading into this way too much. Google protagonist. You'll see: the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
