Another example for the lists of Janet being way ahead of her time. Empty is about internet relationships and the lack of true fulfillment they give compared to the real thing. This was way back in 1997 and evidently it's only grown in heaviness since. The song is pretty amazing, the softness as it starts transitioning into more mechanical sounds and the "1, 2, 3, 4" over the song adding to the intensity before culminating at the end and cooling into the next song. I love everything about it really, just a complete package of a track.
Vilppu backs up what I'm saying, "Crazy how her music is still relatable and important - probably even more than ever - 20 years later. The track about searching for acceptance through Internet only solidifies the fact." That's why she's a legend!
Aerosol is another big fan, "Legitimately a stunning masterpiece. A song referencing the internet way before that became a predictable plot device typically used in a trashy way, and so well-written that it's not at all dated in its subject matter."
Auburn thinks this "is so perfect to describe online relationships" like yours with Bitchcraft?
ECNEICSNOC gives it a very respectful sending off, "Musically and thematically, it was so far ahead of its time. It really speaks to the futility of technology to fulfill basic human needs for connectedness and genuine interaction with other people. At least that’s what I tell my side bitches when I don’t text back. Also, lovely harmonies and intricate layers of production to be peeled away."
Damn, disconnected.
