Philadelphia, Milk, The Danish Girl, Carol, Philomena, Brokeback Mountain, The Kids Are All Right, Boys Don't Cry were all Oscar nominees / winners, so there's that.
I definitely enjoyed all of the films on my list, too. And I've seen basically everything available on Netflix, so you can trust that I've left out the **** I didn't like. Several of the very best happen to be foreign language (Cuatro Lunas, I Killed My Mother, Laurence Anyways, The Way He Looks).
