Government officials in China's Gaoling district told the Beijing Times the woman might have starved to death.
The elevator apparently became stuck between the 10th and 11th floors of a building in the city of Xian on Jan. 30, the Times said. Service men called to deal with the broken cable banged on the door, but when they heard no response they cut off power to the elevator and told residents to use a different lift, the officials said.
When the servicemen returned to fix the cable last week, they opened the elevator door and found the woman's body.
“Her hands were distorted… there were scratches on the wall, it was horrible,” said a building resident told the Times.
wow ok this is only one of my biggest fears. The fear of being stuck in an elevator is why I try not to go into elevators by myself so I can at least have someone else there to help my ass get out. I lowkey have a panic attack when the doors don't immediately open

Same. I was in an elevator a few weeks (on the 19th floor) ago that wouldn't open and then showed an 'X' where the numbers for the floor should've been! I almost hollered and jump kicked the walls!
I don't understand how that happens. Were the elevator shafts completely and totally sound proofed somehow? Was she mute or something? Nobody in that building would have slept if it would've been me locked in a damn elevator. F that. OMG tho, what a horrible, horrible way to die. I can't imagine. RIP.

Gosh, that's almost as bad as being buried alive. She most likely died from dehydration more than starvation. Can't you go longer without eating than you can without drinking. I'm sure it's a few weeks without food and just a couple of days with water.
