There’s No Excuse For ‘Child Brides’ In Europe
Quote:
Are certain cultural practices inferior to others? Yes.
It is morally inferior, indeed repugnant, to beat one’s spouse no matter the religious or cultural justification—of which plenty is offered.
It is morally inferior to justify killing a person for leaving their faith, regardless of how important identity and religion is to anyone’s politics, and despite which regime thinks otherwise.Likewise, sexual intercourse with a minor is rape. There can be no legal consent involving a child. Euphemistically calling this “child marriage” does not change the fact that it is nothing but child sex abuse.
That these are subjective moral positions should be as relevant as it is when discussing the abolition of slavery. In other words, not at all.
You would be forgiven for thinking this is all incredibly obvious. You may even have believed that such moral viewpoints had become as enshrined in the West as the prohibition on torture. If so, and to naughtily lift a phrase from the left: check your privilege. In a move that can only ever go down in history as incredibly regressive, a municipality in the Swedish city of Malmo decided to approve underage “child marriage” among refugees.
It was only after becoming engulfed in scandal that the municipality vowed to re-evaluate this decision, when reports emerged of a pregnant 14-year-old Syrian girl living at a reception center with her 23-year-old “husband.” But across Europe —in the name of multiculturalism—startling patterns are emerging.

This is truly an horror, to think that only men will benefit from this.

I never got why some people would be so happy just giving their child to someone and robbing them of their childhood.

you wouldnt get it because its not your belief or faith. This was a practise adopted to secure the future of one's child's future.

That's unacceptable. Even in the south of Italy minors haven't been marrying since the 50s.

Adultery isn't seen as a positive thing here in Europe

I believe humans rights are above of anyone's beliefs or faith and children should be able to grow up and then as a adults decide whether or not they want to marry and do it with whomever they want to. It's not like they're in their country anymore where women can't study or get a job, so that whole thing of "securing the child's future" is just a silly excuse.

You can't tell people how to behave since it's not your culture. It's not your place.

Adultery isn't promoted lol and all the others aren't really when you think about it but it's not like they are bad things. Let people be, by marrying a CHILD you're forcing her to leave her childhood behind.

I know everyone is entitled to their, right or wrong, opinion, but I can't believe it's 2016 and people still have these views
Most of the countries which promote child marriage despise and abuse gays, do you find that acceptable because it's their culture?

Why are they coming to Europe then, if they think they promote all these bad things? They should stay where they belong, where they are safe from sex before marriage, teen sex, divorce, adultery...

who determined these human rights? Not the people practising these cultures. Its soo like westerners to call every belief that does not conform to their's as silly. Just because i move to a new country or town doesnt mean i forget where i come from. You forget that these parents that do this they themselves went through the same experiences.

So if a culture promotes human sacrifice we should let them because it's their culture? You know that slavery was a cultural thing too right? Some things just need be overcome especially since those people are in foreign lands they should learn to adapt.

there is absolutely no way you can condone this. it's wrong they're children being manipulated, withought (even if they did it's still wrong it's manipulation). this is child abuse. and having sex with a minor is so wrong on so many different levels.

They need to let children be children. If I had a child who is 13,14 years old there's no way I would want him/her to marry someone so young since happiness and education comes first and foremost. No money in the world could convince me to give my kid away.
