His latest album isn't actually bad, at all...however he loses me with his "holier than thou" attitude toward said music career. Yes, you're in a highly successful movie franchise but music-wise, you could use some of those Fast and Furious viewers.
What he's saying is the mainstream likes to pigeon-hole black artists into the urban genre (r-n-b) despite the music fitting well into the pop genre which has more reach. The only two black artists even successful crossing over are Rihanna and sometimes Beyonce and for both, that's just barely. This is a sad fact considering many urban artists make great songs which may never get heard which is evident even here on ATRL at times. When you put out a great "urban" singer's name or a song they have released yet get that "who is that", there's a problem. Tyrese is bringing light to that and I bet some don't even know who he is.
19, her most soulful based album, never got played on pop radio. It depends on the song.
HWG should've been played alot on rhytmic and urban AC had it been a single.
i've Always seen the urban formats a bit racist (black = r&b), but apparentely Adele really attracts listeners on those formats especially urban AC, i could never see Hello actually being #1 there (which it was for weeks). Amazing.
and pop should play more soulful r&b and such aswell.
im assuming people who are talking down on Tyrese music have not heard his last album Black Rose since that was one of the better R&B albums of last year and Shame was an amazing song.
He is a bit deluded tho.
