Idris Elba & McConaughey confirmed for 'The Dark Tower'
Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba to Star in Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower'
Quote:
It’s a big day for Stephen King fans — the “Dark Tower” movie is a go, the author revealed on Twitter, writing, “It’s official: The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed. #DarkTowerMovie @McConaughey @Idris Elba.”
The two actors followed with playful tweets of their own. Elba teased McConaughey, “You have one new follower,” to which McConaughey responds, “Come and get me, I look forward to it.”
The tweets are in reference to their casting — Elba is the gunslinger, Roland Deschain, and McConaughey is the man in black (known by many names, but usually Walter Padick or Walter O’Dim). Both characters are trying to reach the tower that stands the pinnacle of space and time. Roland is seeking to save the world, while the man in black seeks power to rule over it.
And, though we're still don't know any more details about the production set to premiere in 2017, we hope the final product includes King's iconic dark fantasy, science and horror elements. King has described the series as his magnum opus.
Both King and Nikolaj Arcel, who is the movie’s director and co-writer, spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the movie, which begins shooting in South Africa in seven weeks.
