But revives would have nothing to do with evolution.

They appear very similar. If you'd asked me before I would've said the concept is insane. But with the little information we have on Ash-Greninja it kinda has me really anxious.
Maybe it's a form of mega evolution where if your bond is strong enough, the Pokemon takes on your form or something?
