There is more to a country than just the land. It's basically mostly Europeans who built and transformed America into a superpower with the largest economy in the world today. I highly doubt it would have been anywhere close to being the great nation it is today if those Europeans never conquered or set foot on it.

The formation of most countries is primarily a result of conquest, invasion, expansion. expulsion or even genocide of the natives that first settled there. It is common among nearly all societies in the past.
