That's...a bit of an overstatement. There is a gene (which is more common in white people, although still not super common) that confers a seemingly complete immunity to most strains of HIV. The stats are a bit unclear but the incidence rate of the gene seems to range somewhere between 1 in 10 (for Europeans) to less than 1 in 100, though a person would need two copies of the gene to be immune.

But yeah, I wouldn't count on having that gene when deciding whether to get tested.

It's based on estimations using samples from 2005-2013. There was reportedly less than a thousand AAPIs living with HIV.

It would be inaccurate to estimate for such a small group. However I see this forum is having great fun with these "results".

Even using condoms or in committed monogamous relationships, any sexually active person needs to get regularly tested for HIV/STDs in general as condoms aren't 100% fail safe.

I really like the fact that black women and men have the strongest numbers for testing; however, I dislike the fact that it seems to be trending downward across the board over the last few years when that's a number that should be stable if not rising. Still, it's definitely an absolute necessity and I'm glad my community is aware and acting on it in general.
