physical geography is not the only factor in this, there are other notions that influence the way we see continents. there is a strong historical and cultural component that makes it hard for us to see Africa, Asia and Europe as a whole, too
BUT that historical and cultural component might be the same reason because you can't see North & South America as a whole! in both cases, the only right answer is "it depends" lol, depending on where you were born, you could have learned that there are from
3 to 7 continents! A HOT MESS.
