People seem to forget that the law system works for the people. Our morals aren't/shouldn't be guided by the law system. That's a very oversimplified/idiotic way to think about your values. If the law system decided segregation was acceptable, or Don't Ask Don't Tell was acceptable, which it did at one point, that does not mean it's "right"

THE CONTRACT IS BETWEEN KESHA AND LUKE, she isn't signed directly to Sony but to Luke's record label and publishing company.
I'm not at all on Sony's side and I think they really ****ed up the way they let things get messy like that and even, their "statement" came far too late. I repeat it, it's a PR nightmare for them.
But I believe them when they said they can't free Kesha from her contract. It's a lot more complex than people think.
